Congratulations to our January students of the month Wyatt Crawford and Myka Wheaton! Wyatt is an eighth grader that was nominated by two of his teachers this month. His teachers say: Wyatt always comes to class prepared. He is respectful, kind, participates in lessons, takes notes, and completes his work. He asks questions during lessons, seeking to actually understand the learning, as opposed to simply wanting the answer. His grades are all A's or high B's, and he is very active in extra-curricular activities. Myka Wheaton is a sixth grader at Green Ridge. Her teachers say: Myka is a constant ray of sunshine. Her optimistic attitude is contagious to all. Not only does Myka work well with all students, but you can put her in any group or any spot and she will always find ways to motivate those around her. Her ability to hold herself and her peers accountable makes our job much easier. Her quick wit and sense of humor makes teaching even more fun.

Harmony competed at the Show-Me Classic yesterday at Smith-Cotton High School. We had a great crowd come out to see us including some of our biggest and closest fans. “The group worked really hard since our last competition to including some of the changes and improvements suggested by our last judges and clinicians,” said Bates. “We also had some visits and work with Mr.Holbert leading up to this one. His wisdom was also a huge help to us and I am very happy with the attitude and effort from all my kids.” Harmony took 3rd place in their division and maintained a close score to other area schools. Their next time on the stage will be February 18th in Nevada, MO. Photo Courtesy of Elizabeth Garrigus.

We had a parent call the school yesterday, alerting us of a phone call she received, about her son taking the ACT test. The caller told her they would send ACT prep materials for $200 and then when he returned the materials the money would be refunded. The caller knew that the test day was March 7, and her son is going to be taking it on that date. GRHS has not uploaded the names to ACT yet, so it seems strange that the caller knew that. We just want to alert our parents and other communities of this potential issue. Here are a couple articles that could help provide more insight to testing scams that ramp up this time of year. This first one mentions the SAT and not the ACT, but it still gives a better explanation of what the scammers are trying to do. https://www.bbb.org/article/news-releases/23883-bbb-scam-alert-watch-out-for-sat-prep-scams This news report from Ohio is about a year old, and it provides advice to protect your child's credit in addition to the basic scam concerns. https://www.10tv.com/article/news/local/protecting-your-teen-from-identity-theft-act-scam-calls-pick/530-132957b2-d387-469a-89ff-64e1b2ea752e
